Iconic social justice crusader Dr Manisha Bangar wins Telengana govt & Eshwari Bai Memorial Trust Award

Her social and political campaign for the emancipation of oppressed majority had been saga of inspiration for us all. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Manisha Bangar travelled from Hyderabad to Nagpur and contested fiercely against the BJP’s known face, Nitin Gadkari.

 

Who is Dr Manisha Banger? Perhaps she needs no introduction in India.

A wonderful woman of substance, she is a Gastroenterologist and a Liver Transplant Hepatologist.

Manisha is a popular crusader for social justice, diversity and representation agenda.

In fact, she is a renowned humanist worldwide for her influential endorsement of the ideology of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Phule, Periyar and Lohia in addition to a galaxy of social justice agenda setters of the contemporary era.

A few months ago Manisha toured many cities of Canada and delivered powerful lectures on social injustice and caste denominations in India.

Dr Manisha Bangar (MBBS, MD, DM) is a liver transplant specialist and hepatologist of international repute. She is widely known for her part in the forefront of the Indian Bahujan Movement spanning over two decades, directed at empowering and uplifting the downtrodden castes and social classes of India who constitute ninety percent of India’s 1.3 billion population. As a Vice President of the People’s Party of India – Democratic and the Founder cum Managing Editor of National India News, a prominent digital media platform, she plays a huge role in ensuring that the people’s voice is heard in a partisan and biased mainstream media.

Her past credentials include her post as the National Vice President of BAMCEF and also the President of it’s Women’s Wing. In her medical career, she is on the boards of many International organizations such as SAASL ( South Asian Association for Study of Liver disease ) and INASL ( Indian Association for Study of Liver Disease ). Her work in the control of liver disease and affordable Health Care accessibility has also been internationally acclaimed. She has been the recipient of many awards, most notably the Friend of Hepatitis Alliance and the Kalinga Award.

Over the past decade Dr Manisha Bangar has regularly been invited to render talks in internationally celebrated centres of education such as MIT, Columbia University, UC Davis, Brandeis University, USA , Carlton University Canada , Karachi University Pakistan and many universities in India on topics such as, diversity in institutions, civil rights, freedom of expression, liberating philosophies, social inequalities and issues of gender discrimination.
She has consistently responded to the rise in number of caste atrocities, institutional oppression of backward classes and violent suppression of minorities in last couple of years in the Indian subcontinent by galvanizing, organising and helping raise voices in a number of peaceful protests in India. She was invited to the United Nations, New York , USA in a symposium to discuss on removing roadblocks in the way of India’s sustainable equitable growth and development in April 2016.
For her work she has been awarded the Global Bahujan Award.

Dr Manisha’s socio-political ideas and work is firmly anchored in Phule Ambedkarite Periyarist ideology. Though she was born into a Buddhist family, her quest for egalitarian philosophies and revolutionary movements led her to delve into studying Sikhi thought and Sikh religion on which she has given many intellectually stimulating talks in, USA, Canada, UK, Middle East and Europe. Her sterling efforts in propagating Sikhi thought and values have received recognition from prominent Sikh leaders and forums in form of awards and felicitations.
